About Katya

Katya

Studied photography at the SHIVKV in Genk, Belgium. Got my degree in 1993, just before the big changes photography went through, right before the 'big digital bang'. Afterwards I studied journalism and graphic design. Somehow I rolled into graphic design, since I never intended to do so. Designed some websites in the late nineties and worked several years for a local newspaper. I'm also working as a volunteer in a wildlife resque centre. I'm interested in weatherphenomenons and the weather in general, which is absolutely not boring (although at times it is... especially at wintertime, when there is lack of winter in Belgium). I also studied environmental management last year. I'm worried about the future of our beautiful planet and it's wonderful nature. I still photograph quite a lot. I started to photograph when I was twelve years young. I do like to express myself through art. I also like to write, draw and paint but photography is my first love and will always be :). I just adore the pureness of 'classic' photography, as it should be: simplicity makes it sophisticated and brilliant, especially in black and white. I hardly improve or manipulate my images as they should be telling what I intend to tell. An image has a soul and lives on it's own. I just give it a chance to live and tell it's hidden message. Sometimes it needs just a little bit of finetuning... I try to show my point of view the way I learned it: simple and pure! Thank you for visiting my little personal place on the net. Hope to see you again soon! Greetings!
